SIBU: A total of 67 swimmers here will take part in the Sarawak Games (Suksar) swimming time trial at Bukit Lima Swimming Pool on Aug 26 and 27.

Only 20 will be picked to represent central zone for Suksar to be held in Kuching from Dec 14-17.

Sibu Amateur Swimming Association (Sasa) president Oliver Kuo said the swimming events are crucial for the zone’s overall medal tally.

He told reporters this at a press conference yesterday where Sasa secretary Tong Hii and treasurer Yik How Sing were also present.

The 67 swimmers – 23 girls and 44 boys – are from eight primary schools, seven secondary schools, one international school and two swimming clubs.

The central zone also encompasses Mukah and Kapit but both are not sending any swimmer for the time trial.

Kuo said the time trial will also serve as a selection for the Tan Sri Wong Soon Kai Cup to be held held in Bintulu on Dec 2 and 3.

Sibu Resident Hii Chang Kee is expected to officiate at the closing ceremony on Aug 27 at 5.40pm.

Suksar 2017 will see competition among four zones – southern zone (Serian, Samarahan, Kuching), western zone (Sarikei, Sri Aman, Betong), central zone (Sibu, Mukah, Kapit) and northern zone (Miri, Bintulu, Limbang).
