SIBU: It was a scene of deep sorrow as parents and others gathered to pay their last respects to the late Primary One pupil Jackson Nuing Awe, who was allegedly killed by his Primary Six schoolmate in their hostel in Kapit.

Jackson, who was from Rumah Untang, Sungai Yong in rural Kapit was seriously hurt when he was alleged to have been punched and kicked by his schoolmate on Tuesday.

He slipped into a coma and was rushed to Klinik Desa Nangka Merit before being transferred to Kapit Hospital and finally to Sibu Hospital, where he died on Thursday at 3.30pm of multiple injuries.

The police have confirmed the case, classified under Section 302 of the Penal Code, saying the Primary Six pupil was arrested before being released on police bail as he needed to prepare for his Ujian Penilaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) examination next month.

The incident is believed to have sparked after the Primary Six boy was provoked by Jackson for making fun of his father’s name.

A post mortem was conducted this morning by pathologist Dr Norlisa from Kuching.

As at 11am today, the post mortem is still ongoing.

Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Amer Awal confirmed a police report of the murder was lodged by the victim’s father, a 35-year-old farmer, after he was told by a school teacher that his seven-year-old son was unconscious and had been admitted to Sibu Hospital.

“When the father arrived at the hospital, he learned that Jackson had suffered serious head injuries and had bruises on some parts of his body,” said Amer earlier.

The victim, he added, was pronounced dead at 3.30pm, leading police to arrest the 12-year-old suspect.

Also present were the representatives of the school, the police and friends and relatives of Jackson’s family.
