MIRI: Grassroots members of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) are in full support of the move by their president Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg to field new faces in the upcoming general election (GE14).

Former PBB Lambir youth chief Baharuddin Tani agreed with the move, saying it has been the party’s tradition to field young people to replace its old representatives and those with health problems who do not wish to seek re-election.

“We support Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg’s move to field new candidates to ensure our PBB will be stronger with new blood and ideas to realise his vision and mission for the state to embrace and succeed in the digital economy,” Baharuddin told The Borneo Post yesterday.

According to Baharuddin, PBB has young leaders who are ever ready to serve the state and country with full dedication and replace the old ones.

“You are like the captain of the people, if you feel you have already reached your limit, you must give way to young blood and that makes the party strong,” Baharuddin said further.

A PBB member and councillor Hajis Japar Labaw said party members here are totally behind the Chief Minister in steering the party to greater heights and picking new candidates for the parliamentary election.

“PBB all these years has been practising ‘change of guards’ through its rank and file and it is up to the Chief Minister to decide PBB’s candidacy,” he pointed out.

At a PBB meeting in Kuching recently, Abang Johari announced that PBB will field a few new faces in the upcoming general election.
