KUCHING: Timber Land Properties Sdn Bhd’s (Timber Land Properties) managing director Kevin Choo Chung Ing, an entrepreneur known to push boundaries, recently snagged the Asia Pacific Entrepreneurship Award 2017 for the property development industry category.

In conjunction with winning the award, Choo is generously offering up to RM50,000 discount off any of Timber Land Properties’ projects.

This offer is limited to five units only.

Timber Land Properties, the property arm of Timber Land Group of Companies, was first formed in 2006.

Ten years later, Timber Land Properties is now considered one of the big powerhouses in property development in Kuching, with a portfolio across Sarawak that includes commercial developments, high-rise office towers, service apartments and luxury residences.

Timber Land Properties has many projects going on right now ranging from landed property terrace houses, double-storey houses, semi-detached houses and even detached houses.

Other ongoing projects include apartments and office blocks.

Timber Land Properties’ biggest project currently is City Square at Pending whereby construction of phases one and two have already been completed. There are people moving into the apartment block while the 10-storey office block has also seen Suruhanjaya Syarikat Malaysia (SSM) moving in and currently occupying the bottom three stories as it renovates the upper seven stories for another enforcement department.

“City Square is doing quite well. If I’m not mistaken, we have five coffee shops open there, an escape room is there, few hardware stores are opening up and there’s a multinational company opening up at the corner unit, they are renovating right now. Now we are negotiating, seems like a furniture shop is coming in as well.

“Slow but steady growth for the little commercial area. In the future there will be more to come, there’s going to be a lot of apartments coming up. If I’m not mistaken, we should have around 600 to 700 units of apartments coming up in that area.

“We have a shopping complex and a hotel approved as well,” Choo said.

Upon completion, City Square is expected to be worth RM700 million to RM800 million.

Timber Land Properties’ other projects include Princeton Suites which consists of an apartment building comprising 83 units in total. Princeton Suites will be located just across Kuching International Airport.

The starting prices for these units are approximately from RM330,000.

With terrace houses hard to come by these days, the property developer also has a double-storey terrace house project in the works located just across E-Mart Batu Kawa called E-Residence. The starting price for these units are from RM530,000.

Moving forward, Choo plans to venture out to Australia as part of a diversification of Timber Land Properties’ portfolio, something which he believes is very important.

“We can’t leave all our eggs in one basket. Recently, we’ve also seen a serious depreciation in the ringgit…So, I think a bit of diversification would be good,” Choo explained.

“We are currently planning to venture into Australia, that’s definitely a short to medium term goal. We are also looking into West Malaysia – maybe the towns outside of Kuala Lumpur, places like Seremban.”

To date, Timber Land Properties’ has completed projects in Kuching, Sibu and Bintulu.
