KUCHING: Everyone should strive hard to make Malaysia even more prosperous.

“I wish for a better Malaysia, a more prosperous Malaysia. I hope everybody will work hard to achieve that.

“We have good leaders in Sarawak. We must strive to achieve the dream that every Malaysian and every Sarawakian wish to see – a prosperous nation. We have the resources, people and talent to achieve that,” said Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang.

Lo was representing guest-of-honour Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian at the Ho Soon Physical Culture Club flag raising and distribution ceremony at Kuching Sentral yesterday in conjunction with National Day.

He said that Malaysia is one of a few countries in the world to be multi cultural, racial and religious and that by achieving harmony, Malaysia became the envy of many countries.

He said while celebrating National Day, Malaysians should not forget other important dates like Malaysia Day on Sept 16 and Sarawak Day on July 22.

Lo, who is also Padawan Municipal Council chairman said: “History is important as it tells us why things happened.  We have come this far.

“We have achieved independence. We have progressed this far – I can’t say we haven’t progressed.

“We are prosperous – I can’t say we are not prosperous. My dream is for Malaysia and Sarawak to become even more prosperous and for everyone to work together to preserve this cooperation and harmony in Sarawak and Malaysia.”
