KUCHING: About 50 cyclists are participating in the three-day cycling skills course organised by the Sarawak State Sports Council (MSNS) here and in Sibu for the second day running on Thursday.

Thursday saw fine weather with a halo around the sun in the sky which must be a good sign to the riders at the two training venues here while it was raining on the first day of the three-day course.

However, it there was no such phenomenon in Sibu where it was hot and dry.

The cycling skills course planned and supervised by head coach Leon Schepers was simultaneously run in Kuching at the track behind the Sarawak Aquatic Centre and the DBKU mountain bike track at Bukit Siol while the third was held in Sibu.

The courses, which was conducted fresh from the talent identification and recruitment drive at the Cycling Roadshow held in Sibu and Miri on Aug 19 and Aug 26, are aimed at increasing the skills level of the cyclists which are vital when it coming to winning over their competitors.

The course at the stadium area was conducted by assistant coach Aidwin Aidan Wing while course at the DBKU track was under assistant coach Laurel Lauridsen Adrian.

Schepers and his assistant Mrtle Patricia Wilken took care of the Central Zone in Sibu where they made new finds during the Roadshow.

“On the second day the riders increased to 16 which is encouraging.

“Several cycling techniques were imparted while we try to keep it fun throughout the course,” said Aidwin.

In Sibu, the experienced Schepers showed his expertise in setting up the bikes which are the basic and important part of racing.

He also showed the participants various techniques like the braking skills to help the riders add to their knowledge in competitive cycling.
