MIRI: This resort city needs more events which are crowd pullers to lure more visitors to the city.

Assistant Minister of  tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin said such effort will help make Miri a worthwhile place to visit.

Speaking at the prize presentation for Wushu, Lion Dance and Taekwando Competition at CocoCabana of Marina Park here last Thursday, Lee who is also Senadin assemblyman, said the event should not only be organised for the record.

“The events must be creative enough and have the charm to draw people’s participation. Not only locals, but visitors travel to many countries in search of unique experiences.”

In view of that, he praised the organising of Wave Carnival by Junior Chamber International (JCI ) Lutong at CocoCabana which attracted thousands of people to the carnival.

“I’ve been told that this carnival is held for 10 days from Aug 25. Various activities have been lined up for the carnival such as 70 food stalls, 40 business stalls, a mini petting zoo, Eco Day Contest, Voice Star 5 singing contest, Wave Run and many others.

“This sort of carnival should be more towards providing carnival-goers, particularly those who come with families, their own segment while enjoying the carnival.”

Later at the function, he presented prizes to the top 10 winners of the Wushu Competition, which was one of the side events for the carnival.
