KUCHING: More than 2,000 former students and students of SMK St Joseph as well as other individuals took part in the school’s joggerthon held in connection with its 135th anniversary.

The event, which was flagged off yesterday by Local Government and Housing Minister and Old Josephians’ Association chairman Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian, was divided into 3km and 8km categories.

It successfully raised some RM200,000 for the school’s maintenance and upgrading project estimated at RM2 million. City Jogger’s Club (CJC) also donated RM3,000 to help the school with its project.

Among the former students who participated in the joggerthon were Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah and Tupong assemblyman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman.

According to Dr Sim, two school blocks are in dire need of repair. He said one of the blocks had been certified by the Public Works Department as unsafe to be used. Dr Sim thus hoped that the maintenance and upgrading works could commence early next year.

Meanwhile, the school will be hosting its 135th anniversary dinner at Imperial Hotel here on Nov 17. Individuals who are interested in buying dinner tickets are advised to call 082-240885.
