SIBU: Police arrested a 53-year-old man, released from prison last year after serving a 12 year jail sentence for raping his own daughter who was 15 years old  at in 2008 , for allegedly raping his seven-year-old granddaughter multiple times at a longhouse in Sungai Durin since his release from prison last year.

The man’s 25-year-old son was also arrested by police on suspicion of committing incestuous rape against the same child, who confided the matter to her mother on Sept 2 when she visited the latter in Mukah.

Sarawak CID head Datuk Dev Kumar who confirmed the case yesterday said a police team led by ASP Irwan Hafiz first arrested the son at his workplace at a timber factory in Durin around 1pm following a police report lodged by the child’s mother, who is the suspect’s elder sister.

“Around 2pm, the same police team arrested the unemployed grandfather at his longhouse,” he said.

According to him further, the incestuous rape became known when the Primary 1 pupil confided to her mother while visiting her in Mukah during the recent school holiday.

“The victim’s parents separated around the time she was born. The mother remarried in 2013 and moved to Balingian with her new husband, leaving her daughter (victim) in the care of the child’s grandmother in Sungai Durin.

“The grandfather came back to the longhouse and stayed together following his release from prison in August 2016. That was when it (the rapes) all started to happen.”

Both suspects will be produced in court here today for remand.

Meanwhile in Sarikei, police arrested a 38-year-old labourer on suspicion of raping his 15-year-old daughter.

Dev Kumar said the matter came to light around 10.30am yesterday when the secondary school student complained of stomach pain to her hostel warden.

“The warden  brought the teenager to Sarikei Hospital for a medical checkup. Following the checkup, a medical officer from the Accident and Emergency Unit notified the police.”

He said initial investigation indicated the rapes took place at a longhouse in Sungai Bulat, Sarikei and had been occurring since July this year.

“The suspect, who is the girl’s father, was arrested at 4pm when he showed up at Sarikei Hospital to visit the victim,” said

Dev Kumar, adding the labourer will be brought to Sessions Court in Sarikei today for a remand application.
