Exhibition on agriculture, horticulture and agro-tourism development

SARIKEI: A mini Malaysian Agriculture, Horticulture and Agro-Tourism  (Maha) development exhibition will be held in the open space in front of the civic centre here from Sept 15 to 17.

Initiated by Sarikei Division Bumiputera Entrepreneurs Development Council (MPUB) and the Women’s Section of Sarawak Bumiputera Chamber of Commerce (Dewanita) Sarikei Division, the three-day exhibition is jointly organised by the Modernisation of Agriculture and Rural Economy Ministry (Manred) and Ministry of Industrial and Entrepreneur Development (MIED).

After chairing the organising committee meeting yesterday, Sarikei Resident Mohd Junaidi Mohidin said the main objective of Sarikei Mini Maha 2017 was to provide a platform for local farmers and agro-based entrepreneurs to promote and sell their products.

He said a total of 30 booths would be utilised by local entrepreneurs, government departments and agencies to promote their products during the three-day exhibition themed ‘Sarikei-Hub Agro-Politian’.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan who is also Minister of Industrial and Entrepreneur Development is expected to officiate at the soft launch of the exhibition at 2.30pm on Sept 16.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg who will be here to open Sarikei Innovation Centre (SIC) at 10.30am on Sept17 has also been invited to open the Sarikei Mini Maha 2017 thereafter.

Additional programmes being organised to celebrate Malaysia Day on Sept 16 include an aerobics session in front of SIC around 7am, a whole day Sarikei Fitness show  and stage show at night.

Mohd Junaidi said a section of Nyelong Road stretching from the junctions of Jalan Getah, Jalan Berek and Jalan Market would be closed to traffic from Sept 13 to 18 for canopies for the event to be erected over those stretches.

Present were Deputy Resident Anbang Mohd Porkan Abang Budiman who is also Sarikei Division MPUB chairman and Sarikei  Dewanita  chairperson Mariamah Abdullah.
