KOTA KINABALU: Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Masidi Manjun has asked the United States to consider lifting its travel ban for its citizens to travel to Sabah’s east coast.

Speaking at the Maritime Environmental Security Workshop 2017 yesterday, Masidi said that perhaps it was the right time for the US to lift its travel advisory because it has hampered the quality of tourism in Sabah.

Masidi also said that security in Sabah’s east coast had improved by leaps and bounds and even invited the US authorities who were present at the workshop to see the situation.

He added that the US also conducted joint exercise with the Malaysian forces at the Sulu-Sulawesi Coral Triangle.

The US travel advisory was issued some two years ago after the kidnapping incidents in the east coast.
