SIBU: A Lantern Festival will be held at Phase I of Sibu Town Square from Oct 3 to 26, promising a gamut of Mooncake Festival activities.

Sibu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCCI) is organising the event on behalf of Sibu Municipal Council (SMC).

SCCCI president Dr Gregory Hii said activities will include performances by artistes from throughout the nation, various contests, a food fair and a fun fair.

“Sibu Lantern Festival is an important event to promote Visit Sibu Year (VSY) 2017. It has found a place in the VSY programme to promote inbound tourism industry,” Hii told a press conference yesterday.

“There will be numerous lanterns surrounding the Town Square,” he said.

There will be lanterns adorning the lighting channel, lighting towers, and lantern wall.

“A lantern-making contest for government departments, private firms, associations, schools and religious bodies is in the pipeline.

“Then there is going to be a photography contest.”

Hii said Phase II of the Town Square will see the staging of a trade expo, food fair and fun fair.
