KUCHING: Sarawak Housing Purchaser Claims Tribunal has ordered four developers to pay RM68,796 as compensation to five buyers for late delivery of the houses.

Tribunal president Peter Liam Thiam Seng ordered the payment to be paid to the buyers and defects to each house to be repaired within 45 days.

The developers were given 30 days to appeal.

The first case involved a property at Jalan Wan Alwi in which the developer was ordered to pay RM35,663 to the buyer after the RM474,912-house was not handed over as at Dec 1 last year.

The buyer had made a claim of RM61,390 against the developer.

In another case, a developer was ordered to pay the claimant RM9,200 in compensation for late delivery of a single-storey, semi-detached house in the city.

The developer had already paid the buyer RM4,000 and was ordered by the tribunal to settle the balance of RM5,200.

The same developer was also ordered to pay RM6,223 to a buyer, despite a claim worth RM3,521 made against the developer.

The payment was for late delivery of a single-storey, intermediate unit in Muara Tebas Land District, worth RM325,000.

Another developer was ordered to pay RM9,600 in compensation to the buyer of a RM305,000-unit in Muara Tuang for late delivery of a single-storey, semi-detached house.

The developer of a double-storey house at Muara Tebas Land District was also ordered to pay RM8,000 as compensation to the buyer for late delivery of the RM303,800-unit.

Liam urged housebuyers to contact the tribunal should they face problems with the developers, to ensure that their rights as buyers would be protected under the law.
