KUCHING: Malaysia are one gold medal away from achieving their 10-gold target in tenpin bowling at the 9th Asean Para Games in Kuala Lumpur yesterday when they bagged two more gold medals on the third day of competition at Sunway Megalanes, Sunway Pyramid.
Making significant contribution to the national team were two Sarawakians Nur Syazwani Marais and Jeff Wong Kee Soon.
Nur Syazwani won the women’s singles TPB4 (Learning/Intellectual Disability) after knocking down 1,015 pins over six games while Eliyana Johari made it an 1-2 finish for Malaysia with her score of 927 pins.
Singapore’s Diane Teo was third with 863 pins.
Meanwhile, Jeff Wong combined well with Nadia Syafika for Malaysia Team B to knock down 2,472 pins in the mixed doubles TPB9 (Lower Limb/Amputee Disability – Standing) and claim the silver medal, losing by only 17 pins to the gold medallists Malaysia Team A’s Abu Bakar Nyat and Mohd Azrin Rahim.
The bronze medallists were Padpong Sawai and Thongsee Vinai from Thailand who scored 2,035 pinfalls.
To date, Malaysia’s medal tally in tenpin bowling is nine golds, nine silvers and four bronzes, which has surpassed the eight golds they won at the Singapore Asean Para Games two years ago.
Malaysia is represented by 13 men and five women including three Sarawakians Jimmy Siang, Jeff Wong and Nur Syazwani.
