SMK Tabuan Jaya dominate Kuching athletics championship

KUCHING: SMK Tabuan Jaya stamped their class as the athletics powerhouse in the First Division after emerging as the runaway winners of the MSSM Kuching Track and Field Development Championship at the Sarawak Stadium in Petra Jaya yesterday.

The 49 athletes from the Sarawak State Sports School captured 30 gold, 23 silver and 11 bronze medals to dominate the competition held over three days here on Sept 18, 20 and 21.

In a distant second with 17 gold, four silver and nine bronze medals  were SMK Lundu while Chung Hua Middle School No 1 claimed the third spot with six gold, two silver and six bronze medals.

St Joseph’s Private (Secondary) School, fielding 44 athletes, ended their campaign in fourth place with five gold, 12 silver and five bronze medals.

They were followed by SMK Batu Lintang (4-8-7), SMK Green Road (4-3-3), Lodge Secondary School (4-2-3), SMK Santubong (3-5-4), SMK St Joseph (2-2-6) and SMK Bau (2-2-6) in fifth to 10th positions respectively.

A total of 802 students from 40 secondary schools in Kuching Division took part in the championship, aimed at unearthing new talents to represent Kuching in the Inter-Division Development Track and Field Championship.

Categories competed were Boys/Girls U17, U14 and U13.
