KUCHING: Pakatan Harapan chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is expected to attend and give a talk at the Pakatan Harapan Sarawak programme this Sunday from 7pm to 10.30pm.

Pakatan Harapan Sarawak chairman Chong Chieng Jen said the programme has been scheduled at the carpark of Everrise supermarket at BDC here.

“This will be Tun Mahathir’s first visit to Sarawak in his capacity as the chairman of Pakatan Harapan,” he told a press conference held at DAP headquarters here yesterday.

“Tun Mahathir has visited Sarawak many times when he was the prime minister but it will be his first as the leader of the opposition coalition,” he said.

Pakaran Harapan Sarawak Information chief Vernon Kedit, Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong and Stampin MP Julian Tan were at the press conference.

Chong, who is also the state Democratic Action Party chairman, pointed out that national Pakatan Harapan leaders including Lim Kit Siang (DAP) and Dr Mohd Hatta Ramli (Parti Amanah Negara) are among the speakers to speak at the programme.

“We urge the people of Sarawak and not only those living in Kuching to attend the talk and show their support to ‘Change Government’,” he said.

“The call for change of government is not for personal gain but for the people of Sarawak and the future generation,” he added.

On the impact Tun Mahathir will bring to Sarawak, Chong believed his presence will be felt and have an effect on the former supporters of Barisan Nasional (BN).

He added that they will realise as to why Tun Mahathir quit BN party and joined the opposition, which is an indication that something is not right with the present BN government.
