PUTATAN: A supermarket in Putatan, allegedly selling ‘piranhas’ three weeks ago, has now placed the correct name tag on the fish it is selling.

“We gave the wrong name because the supplier called it as such,” said one of the workers at the supermarket.

He said that personnel from the Fisheries Department came to the supermarket to explain to them that what they were selling was not ‘piranhas’ which are carnivorous in nature but rather the ‘Bawal Merah Picu’.

Sold at RM12.99 per kilogram at the supermarket, the attendant selling the fish three weeks ago said that people were reluctant to buy the ‘piranhas’.

Reporters were also told that the fish were sourced from Sarawak.
