PDRM to wipe out illegal gambling activities nationwide

KUALA LUMPUR: With immediate effect, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has set up a special committee to wipe out illegal gambling activities nationwide.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim, who heads the committee said it would act against illegal gambling outlets and syndicates, most of which were in the Klang Valley and major towns, and those abetting such activities.

“We are serious about tackling gambling activities and want to ensure our actions are effective. The IGP (Inspector-General of Police) Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun has also expressed his desire to eradicate illegal gambling nationwide.

“Currently, gambling activities are getting more complex and we need a different approach. So, we must plan to get optimum results from our actions,” he told a media conference at the federal police headquarters in Bukit  Aman here yesterday.

On online gambling, Noor Rashid said the PDRM would work with numerous parties such as the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission. — Bernama
