KUCHING: A primary school teacher was arrested yesterday for allegedly molesting two 10-year-old male pupils in Serian.

The 37-year-old suspect was detained after he was summoned to Serian Police Headquarters at 3pm following police reports lodged by the Year 5 boys.

State CID chief Datuk Dev Kumar said the first incident allegedly took place in May this year when one of the boys was summoned by the teacher into an office at the school.

“The suspect then locked the door and allegedly started molesting the victim. The second case happened in August when the second victim was brought into a storeroom at the same school.

“Once inside, the teacher allegedly tried to molest the pupil but was stopped by the boy, who then escaped and ran straight to his classroom,” he said in a statement yesterday.

According to Dev Kumar, family members of the boys claimed they had reported the two incidents to the school authority, but that no action was taken against the suspect.

“The families claimed there was no action or feedback from the school. This (inaction) forced them to bring both victims to lodge the police reports.”

Police will be applying for a remand order against the suspect today to facilitate investigation under Section 14(a), (b) and (d) of the Sexual Offenses Act Against Children Act 2017.
