SERDANG: More than 460,000 Year One pupils still have the opportunity to enjoy a RM50 special grant incentive through the National Education Savings Scheme (SSPN-i or SSPN-i Plus) until December.

National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) deputy chief executive (Policy and Operations) Mastura Mohd Khalid said that as of Aug 31, only 31,757 of 500,000 Year One pupils had received the special incentive.

“Through Budget 2017, the government had allocated RM25 million for special incentives, whereby parents only need to open an account or add only RM50 into their SSPN-i or SSPN-i Plus accounts to qualify for the incentive.

“This incentive is to encourage parents to open education savings account for their children, so we at PTPTN are calling for them to use this opportunity, because this scheme is not merely for savings, but also has many benefits such as ‘takaful’ coverage up to RM1 million, competitive dividends and tax relief up to RM12,000,” he said.

She said this at PTPTN’s monthly lucky draw prize presentation ceremony for the month of August held in conjunction with its 20th anniversary here, yesterday.

At the event, Chin Choon Keat, a technical consultant at a private company received RM10,000 in his savings account when he was announced as the winner of the draw.

Chin, 34 said that he opened the SSPN-i account in 2012.

“I feel so lucky … this savings scheme is not only good for the future of my child, but I also get tax relief, and today, I received this lucky draw prize,” he said.
