Single mother claims trial to prostituting child to 82-year-old Dato

MIRI: A single mother pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here yesterday to three charges of prostituting a 12-year-old girl to an 82-year-old local businessman holding the title ‘Dato’.

Ayu Abu Bakar, 31, from Kampung Lereng Bukit, Miri is charged with one offence under Sub-Section 372(1)(d) of the Penal Code and two offences under Sub-Section 372(1)(a) of the same Code.

She faces an imprisonment term up to 15 years and whipping, and shall also be liable to fine, for each of the offence if convicted.

According to the facts of the case, she allegedly committed the first offence on Aug 31 this year at 12am, at a budget hotel here, by wrongfully restraining the victim in a room with the intention that the victim have sexual intercourse with Dato Ibrahim Ahmad Darvesh Mohd Deen @ Ibrahim Din.

The accused allegedly committed the second offence at the same hotel on the same time and date, and third offence at another budget hotel on Sept 11 at 8pm, by prostituting the girl to Ibrahim.

Ayu appealed for leniency and for the bail to be reduced as she is a single mother and sole breadwinner for her five children.

Judge Steve Ritikos released her on RM25,000 cash bail in two local sureties and fixed Oct 19 for case management.
