KUCHING: Graduates of the prestigious Asia e University (AeU) will receive their scrolls at the university’s 7th Convocation  at Putra World Trade Centre, Kuala Lumpur today.

They will be joined by their families from around the world, Deputy Minister of Higher Education Datuk Dr Mary Yap Kain Ching, several representatives of foreign embassies from the 34 Asia Co-operation Dialogue (ACD) countries, strategic partners and stakeholders.

There are 3,227 graduates from Malaysia, Bangladesh, Brunei, India, Indonesia, Myanmar, Namibia, New Zealand, Pakistan, Philippines, Somalia, Sri Lanka, Vietnam and Yemen.

They include 10 doctorate graduates; five in Education, four in Business Administration and one Doctorate of Business Administration.

This year, the most outstanding graduate who won three Prestigious Merit Awards of Excellence, Mahani Zainal Abidin Award and School Award is Ho Ken Fatt who  graduated with a Master of Business Administration (MBA).

“I run a diversified portfolio of business since 1997. The MBA programme I enrolled in 2016 strengthens my business knowledge and skills and supplements my real-life business experiences.

“Entrepreneurship is my choice of specialisation. I enjoy AeU’s flexibility mode of learning which allows me to study anywhere anytime without giving up my own businesses and family time,” said Ho.

A recipient of the Chairman’s Award is Lee Guek Bee, who graduated with a Master of Education (MEd) degree.

“The course contents are relevant to me as a senior Science teacher and aptly applicable to real life classroom situations. I am impressed with the well-equipped e-library which gives me easy access to many worldwide educational resources. I never dream I would fall in love with doing research.  It gives me a sense of self-actualisation that

mere words can’t describe,” said Lee.

The President’s Award went to Norazlina Supaat a Bachelor of Education (Teaching Malay Language In Primary School) (Hons) or BEd graduate.

“Despite being a teacher at Sekolah Rendah Agama Bersepadu Kota Tinggi, Johor for 15 years, I enjoyed being a student again. The knowledge gained has broadened my teaching perspective in Bahasa Malaysia and provided new insights on how children learn. AeU’s e-learning gave me the flexibility in accessing learning materials, discussing online anytime and anywhere,” she said.

Meanwhile, AeU’s President/CEO, Prof. Dato’ Dr Ansary Ahmed congratulated all the graduates and said he was proud of their achievements.

“I encourage you to follow our tradition. Reach out to the disadvantaged people in society and create an impact. Adopt AeU’s attitude of making a difference in the world which requires the ability to truly care about the people who inhabit it.”

Asia e-University was established in 2007 under the auspices of the Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) and supported by 34 ACD countries in Asia. It was set up with a mission to be different from other academic institutions in the region. Although it is a provider of open and distance learning in Asia, AeU always had a strong commitment to reach out to students wherever they may be and empower them to manage their own learning. The students are not left isolated.
