KUALA LUMPUR: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg has achieved a number of achievements throughout his 10 months after assuming the position from the late Pehin Sri Adenan Satem.

According to his deputy, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Abang Johari has elevated Sarawak to another level through his vision, which focuses mainly on digitalizing the state and empowering its economy by adopting technology and ICT.

“Sarawak looks at improving its connectivity, and we are building more telecommunication towers, improving fibre optic lines for Internet as fast as four terabytes per second and many more,” said Uggah at the opening ceremony of Lan Berambeh at Putra World Trade Centre here today.

“An estimated RM1 billion has been allocated to further improve the ICT infrastructure and the state government is also setting up incubators for startup companies to venture into ICT based businesses.

Uggah, who was speaking at the event opening ceremony, added that the state government also acquired the Bakun Dam back from the federal government, and is setting up its own development bank and oil and gas company.

“All these efforts will elevate the state to a higher level, as we look into empowering the people through better opportunities all around,” said Uggah.

An annual affair by the state government to meet Sarawakians in Peninsular Malaysia, the Lan Berambeh event is a venue where leaders will be able to meet the people here and disseminate information on any policies and development efforts planned in the state.

Earlier at the event, Tupong assemblyman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman moderated a ‘Randau’ session with several federal ministers from Sarawak.

Among the panelists were Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry Dato Anthony Nogeh, Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem, Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim, Minister in Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Joseph Entulu and Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian.

Also present at the event were state ministers, assemblymen and government agency officials.
