MIRI: Many vacancies in Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM)’s Crime Investigation Department (CID) have yet to be filled, discloses Bukit Aman CID director Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd.

In his remarks during the visit to central police station (CPS) here Thursday, he lamented about the department ‘not having enough officers, especially detectives’.

“The total vacancies for CID officers made available is 6,704. However, the total number of posts filled is 2,290.

“During our department’s meeting in Bukit Aman last week, I had given instructions to my administration to review the issue, regarding some officers whom we had trained and sent to detective courses having no placement provided for them. We hope to fulfil this requirement in the near future.

“With the vacancies being filled, we hope to be able to provide better services in terms of intelligence work.”

Wan Ahmad Najmuddin was here since Thursday for a two-day working visit. He declared the closing of a five-day course on case file preparation and disclosure at a hotel here yesterday. It involved 31 police personnel from Sarawak and Sabah.

On another subject, Wan Ahmad Najmuddin said the CID is in the midst of setting up a special taskforce to investigate the case of two men who were shot and killed in a coffeeshop at Pelawan Road in Sibu on Thursday.

“The case is still under investigation. This special task force will be led by CID Sarawak chief Datuk Dev Kumar,” he pointed out.

Meanwhile, Wan Ahmad Najmuddin told reporters that he was a probationary officer at the CPS here from 1980 to 1984.

“I gained lots of experience here – this place is nostalgic to me,” he said.

Wan Ahmad Najmuddin was accompanied by Bukit Aman CID deputy director SAC Datuk Saiful Azly Kamaruddin and Miri District deputy police chief Supt Stanley Jonathan Ringgit.
