Shafie Apdal’s brother remanded for investigation into Sabah rural funds case

KOTA KINABALU: The younger brother of Parti Warisan Sabah president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal was ordered by the Magistrate’s Court here to undergo five-day remand to facilitate the investigation of the alleged embezzlement of rural infrastructure development funds in Sabah.

Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie made the order on the 52-year-old Umno Semporna division member, who is being investigated under Section 17 (a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009.

MACC investigating officer Mohd Faliq Basirudin had applied for seven days of remand but the magistrate had granted five days after hearing submissions from both parties.

The suspect was brought into the magistrate’s chambers at 12.05pm and the hearing ended at 12.45pm.

The remand started today until October 15.

Counsels Martin Timmy, Cedric Choo, Hamid Ismail and Loretto Padua Sipin Jr represented the suspect.
