KUCHING: Road Transport Department (JPJ) will issue a PG 1 notice (prohibition notice for use of vehicle) to any vehicle found to be in violation of the Motor Vehicle (Prohibition of Certain Types of Glass) Rules 1991, which was last amended on Feb 5, 2016.

The rule stipulates that the minimum visible light transmission (VLT)  percentages are 70 per cent for the front windscreen, 50 per cent for front side windows, and 30 per cent for the rear windows and rear windscreens.

According to a statement issued yesterday, the offending driver will also be given 10 days to have the tint removed at any state JPJ offices.

Failure to do so will earn the owner or driver a compound of up to RM300 under Section 119 of Road Transportation Act 1987, or on first conviction, a fine not more than RM2,000 or jail of not more than six months.

Subsequent convictions will see the fines go not more than RM4,000 or jail of not more than 12 months, or both.
