Navy personnel killed in road accident

The deceased leg was severed due to the road accident.

LIMBANG: A Royal Malaysian Navy personnel from Melaka was killed in a road accident on Wednesday afternoon near Lubai bridge here.

Azman Ayob, 37, from Bandar Baharu, Melaka died on the spot when the motorcycle he rode collided with a lorry laden with oil palm fresh fruit bunches at 12.43pm on Wednesday.

According to the head of Fire and Rescue Department, Tawang Lingem, the victim was travelling from Limbang town heading towards Miri when he allegedly entered the lane on the opposite direction and collided with the 10-tonne lorry transporting oil palm fruit bunches from Batu Danau.

“The victim and his motorcycle crashed under the lorry and he died on the spot. He suffered severe injuries and his left leg was also severed due to the impact of the accident. The lorry driver in trying to avoid the incident had his vehicle skidded and overturned by the side of the road,” he said.

Nine Bomba personnel led by Tawang himself rushed to the scene upon being informed of the accident. Further investigation on the case is being carried out under Section 41(1)(A) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
