Over 30,000 participants expected at state-level National Sports Day

BINTULU: Over 30,000 participants from all over the state are expected to take part in the state-level National Sports Day programme here this weekend.

Assistant Minister of Youths and Sports Datuk Snowdan Lawan is expected to grace the opening ceremony at Bintulu Civic Centre.

He is scheduled to flag off the 10km, 5km and 2.5km run at 6.30am on Saturday.

Among the activities lined up for the two-day event are aerobics, 21km fun ride, traditional sports, aerobathon, nine-a-side football, sepak takraw, skate challenge, netball, rugby, PS Fifa 17 and archery.

For the aerobics workout, those who register before 7am will be entitled for a lucky draw session.

Among the prizes for the lucky draw are Modenas MR1 worth RM5,000, Garmin Forerunner GPS Sports watch worth RM2,500, Garmin Vivoactive HR Smart watch worth RM1,200 and more than 50 prizes all together to be won.

National athletes including Pandelela Rinong, fellow diver Traisy Vivien Tukiet, and wushu ace Loh Jack Chang are also expected to participate.

The National Sports Day is a government initiative to promote healthy living among Malaysians.

It is a yearly event and this year’s state-level programme is jointly organised by Sarawak Youths and Sports Department, Bintulu Resident’s Office, Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youths and Sports and Youths and Sports Bintulu in collaboration with other relevant government agencies.
