PLBS Youth to hold football tourney

MIRI: The Miri Youth Wing of Lun Bawang Association Sarawak (PLBS) will hold their inaugural football competition on Oct 14.

The matches will be played at the Miri City Council (MCC) and Miri Youth Centre fields from 8am to 6pm.

“The main objective of this competition is to elevate the standard of football, being the main sport favoured by our youths,” PLBS Youth Sarawak chairman Petrus Lasong  told The Borneo Post yesterday.

“It is hope that we would be able to foster interest in football and unearth talents from an early age,” he added.

Moreover, Petrus hoped that the competition can become a platform to unite Orang Ulu youths, especially those in Miri.

He said 16 teams would be competing for the title.

The are LBA Limbang, KB Royals FC Lawas, Wawangsa, Veteran Lun Bawang, Kickers United, Semaring FC Bintulu, PLBS Belia Lawas, Kayan FC, Highlanders, Lun Bawang Bau, Rurum Bintulu, OUFC, Batu Lawi, Medamit Lemubed, Tajem and Kelevit Jekitan,

“These teams, comprising 12 players each, are from Kuching, Bintulu, Miri, Lawas and Limbang,” said Petrus.

The champions will bring home RM1,000. Meanwhile the first and second runners-up will receive RM800 and RM600. They will also receive medals. Consolation prize winners will receive RM400.

“In conjunction with this competition, food stalls will be set up at MCC football field to enliven the event. Therefore, we would like to invite the public to come and join in the merriment,” he added.

Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau is expected to grace the opening ceremony.
