Police clean up Sarawak River in ‘Go Green’ policing programme

KUCHING: A “Go Green” Community Policing programme was held to clean up the Sarawak River of rubbish and domestic waste yesterday.

Internal Security and Public Order Department (KDNKA) director Dato Sri Zulkifli Abdullah launched the programme at the Kuching Waterfront and later boarded a speedboat to take part in the river cleaning project.

The programme, according to a spokesperson covered that stretch of the river between Masjid India to the rear of the Grand Margherita Hotel.

With him were State Marine Police commander Sallehudin Mat Zaman and deputy police commissioner Datuk Pahlawan Dzuraidi Ibrahim.

Around 200 individuals took part in the programme with the majority of them from the State Marine Police Region Five and Kuching Police District Headquarters.

Also present was Kuching police district chief Abang Ahmad Abang Julai.

Other agencies which took part in the programme were from the Sarawak Rivers Board, Kuching North City Commission, State Environment and Natural Resources Board, PDRM Air Wing Unit, Waterfront Kuching management office, General Operations Force, Civil Defence Force,

State Fire and Rescue Department and the Village Safety and Development Committees (JKKK) from Kampung Gersik, Kampung Boyan, Kampung Pulo, Kampung Surabaya Hilir/ Hulu and Kampung Semariang.
