Seven boats with 34 illegals intercepted

SEMPORNA: The Malaysian Armed Forces, through the Joint Forces Headquarters 2 (MK ATB 2), detained 34 individuals in seven boats in a attempt to cross the border and enter the curfew area at Danawan Island yesterday .

ATB 2 commander, Brigadier General Zarondin Md Amin, said, based on radar detection information, the individuals, believed to be undocumented Filipinos, were intercepted by a quick reaction force (QRF) at the northern part of Danawan Island.

He said further investigation conducted together with Mabul Island police found that all the individuals had violated the curfew order and did not possess any identification/travel documents.

Zarondin added, the suspects, aged between 20 to 50-years old, were believed to be from Southern Philippines, and have been handed over to Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom) through Mabul Island police at 4.40 am yesterday.

He said, the detention yesterday was the largest by ATB 2 this year and assured that they will continue cooperation with ESSCom to monitor and prevent any criminal activity in the Sabah east coast to guarantee the security and stability of the locals’ socio-economy.
