Taste of Borneo Carnival 2017 from Nov 24-Dec 3

MIRI: The organising committee for the Taste of Borneo Carnival 2017 is busy with the preparation for the food and carnival-based carnival to be held from Nov 24th to December 3rd.

Organised by Sarawak Chinese Association, the carnival will be held at Boulevard Mall’s open car parking area.

Recently, the organising committee led by the association president Ting Pang Soon extended invitation letters to three political leaders here.

They are Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin, Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau and Member of Parliament for Sibuti Datuk Ahmad Lai Bujang.

The 10-day carnival is endorsed by Sarawak Islamic Information Centre and the partners for the event are Dayak Association Miri, Sikh Association Miri, Indian Association Miri, Malay Association Miri and Federation of Orang Ulu Associations Sarawak, Malaysia (Forum) .

Ting said Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg has been invited to launch the carnival.

He said further, the organising committee has also invited Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah and Consulate General of The People’s Republic of China in Kuching, Fu Jijun as special guests at the opening ceremony.

Various activities have been planned for the 10-day carnival such as street dance, Borneo Mandarin Singing Contest, performance from silver City Music Records Enterprise, Borneo National Dance Contest, Cheongsam Costume Contest, street musical performance and singing competition, body building contest, Miss Model recycle Clothing Contest and many others. There will also be a ‘best decorated stall’ competition for stall holders which offers RM1,000 cash to the winner, RM500 for the second-placed and RM300 for the third-placed winners.

The organiser will distribute 1,000 mystery gifts to those who ‘like’ the event on its Facebook page where the gifts will be given on first come, first serve basis.
