KUCHING: The state DAP sees the alliance of Umno and PAS, if it materializes, as “the worst combination that anyone can imagine”, said its chairman Chong Chieng Jen.

He viewed the Umno-PAS pact as a “coalition of extreme racism and extreme religious bigotry”.

“One Umno-led government is bad enough. And if you have a pact of Umno-PAS, it’s even worse.

“It’s the worst combination that anyone can imagine, beyond imagination,” he told reporters at DAP headquarters here today.

He added that pact is now supported by Sarawak BN comprising Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP), Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) and Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS), he added.

Chong, who is Bandar Kuching MP and Kota Sentosa assemblyman, said this in response to the statements made by Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youths and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, who welcomed the Umno-PAS pact.

Chong said it seems that SUPP, which had been very vocal against PAS in the past, has been quiet with regards to the latest development.

“This only goes to show that SUPP, PRS, PDP and even PBB have to go along in whatever decision and policy that is adopted by Umno,” he said.

Chong alleged that with such a decision taken by Umno, it is now clear that these two racial and religious extremist parties are openly working together.

It is reported that Umno had given its president and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak the green light to negotiate with PAS leaders on the electoral pact.
