KUCHING: The Football Association of Sarawak (FAS) today refuted claims by a social media portal that the state team management is seeking “outside help” towards settling the outstanding salaries of players and staff members.

The FAS said its President Dato Posa Majais would be fully responsible for the association’s affairs.

FAS quoted Posa as saying that the association still has the dignity to not “beg for outside help” in settling the outstanding salaries of players and staff.

He was also quoted as saying that players and staff salary is not a big issue because he too had on a personal basis assisted in settling the matter even though sometimes the disbursements were late.

He said since the day he took over the helm of FAS, there was no such issue involving salaries.

Posa said he hoped there would be no more wild speculations and for people to stop entertaining such baseless claims.

He said the focus of FAS now should be in finding ways on developing Sarawak football holistically and to concentrate on the Crocs last match against T-Team on Oct 28.

FAS is said to be plagued by controversies involving its inability in recent years to submit annual returns to the main body Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) and it may risk the chance of the state team to play in the Premier League next season.

These controversies have also caused an apparent rift between the current and past management, taking into account of their leaders’ war of words in the mainstream and social media over the root cause of the controversies.
