A Deepavali treat for Sibu folks as Tamil movie screens at King’s Trioplex

SIBU: It will indeed be a happy Deepavali treat to all Sibu folks, especially the Indian community, as a Tamil movie is screening in King’s Trioplex for the first time after almost 30 years.

The latest installment and the 61st of Vijay’s movie ‘Mersal’ is showing tomorrow (Deepavali) at 4pm for three weeks and according to the Malaysian Vijay Fans Sarawak branch head Karthikgehyen Subramaniam, Vijay fans in Sarawak were already excited about it.

He said hundreds of Vijay fans from Sibu, Bintulu and Miri had already booked their ticket to watch the movie in Sibu.

It was all possible after the Vijay fans in Sibu made a request to King’s Trioplex manager Tang Chiok King to have the movie screening here.

“This arrangement, plan and effort make every Indian very excited in Sibu. They are eagerly waiting to watch the movie on Deepavali.

“The movie is officially release tomorrow and I am very happy and thankful to the manager of King’s Trioplex (Tang) for taking up our request and tried very hard to bring this movie from TSR Films to Sibu,” he enthused.

He also thanked the TSR Films for making this happen; giving such opportunity for Sibu after almost 30 years of no Tamil movie in the cinema.

He said that TSR Films is the one distributing the movie nationwide.

Karthikgehyen said that no Tamil movie been screened in Sibu for such a long time due to the small Indian community in Sibu.

“This time, through the Vijay fans, I called all the Indians and so he (Tang) has a trust on us because now we have viewers,” he said.

Not only that, trusting on Malaysian Vijay fans,  the movie will be on screen for three weeks.

The official ‘Mersal’ teaser video in YouTube had reached 1 million likes with almost 30 million views on Monday; making it the most liked teaser in the world.

According to him, this highly anticipated Tamil movie will be screened at 800 screens in 122 locations nationwide including Sibu.

“In Kuala Lumpur, many theatres are already full house. It is very famous because the hero is a very well-known hero; it is just in Sibu, it is not very well-known and Malaysian Vijay fans are very proud that this movie is running in this theatre,” he enthused.

According to him, the official Malaysian Vijay Fans Facebook page has more than 213,000 likes.

Meanwhile, Malaysian Vijay fans Sarawak not only shared the same interest of Vijay’s film, but in helping the community as well.

He said Vijay fans had done charity work in Methodist Home, Priyatim, Rumah Sri Kenangan, at the longhouses and so forth.
