Foreigner sought for armed gang robbery

SANDAKAN: Police are searching for a foreign male suspect believed involved in an armed gang robbery committed behind a hotel at Bandar Ramai-Ramai here on October 6.

Sabah Police Commissioner Dato’ Ramli Din said the suspect known as Martin, 30, had been asked to surrender at the district police headquarters or any nearest police station to assist in the investigation.

In the incident about 11.55pm, a 47-year-old victim was shot in the abdomen before being robbed by four men.

The victim suffered a loss of about RM15,000, including cash and personal belongings.

Ramli said three male suspects comprising two locals and a foreigner aged 33 to 39 years old were arrested in relation to the case on October 13.

Police also discovered a pistol, two bullets, a slug, a mobile phone, a backpack and wallet, cash, personal documents and vehicle keys which were dumped in a palm oil plantation at Mile 16.

All the confiscated items were estimated to be worth around RM45,000, including the Proton Saga car used by the suspects to commit the crime.

The case will be investigated under Section 3 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971 which carries the death penalty and Section 395/397 of the Penal Code.
