BINTULU: A total of 200 Ecstasy pills worth an estimated RM16,000 were seized from a suspected drug pusher last Saturday.

District police chief Supt Zulkipli Suhaili said the suspect was caught at Medan Jaya Bus Terminal, where he was collecting a parcel at a counter.

“The suspect, a local man in his 30s, was acting suspiciously at the counter when a police team from the district narcotics division approached him for questioning at 5.30pm,” he said in a press conference here yesterday.

According to Zulkipli, a body check conducted on the suspect did not produce anything illegal.

“Police, however, recovered a transparent plastic packet in a parcel containing 100 pills believed to be Ecstasy.

“Further inspection was then carried out at the counter on another of the suspect’s parcel, in which two transparent

plastic packets, each containing 50 pills, were found in an envelope.”

The suspect is on a seven-day remand to assist in the investigation, classified under Section 39(B) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

“I have ordered my men to carry out further investigation into the case to identify the source of the drugs,” he said, reiterating his commitment to combat drug-related crimes in the division by intensifying intelligence-gathering activities.

In other unrelated development, Zulkipli said an integrated operation was carried out last Saturday on Bintulu Paragon, which resulted in a total of 57 summonses being issued for various traffic offences and 50 motorcycles impounded.

“I want to give a soft reminder to all parents and the public that allowing your children to ride or drive without valid licence is an offence, and there is a law that can be used against you,” he said, adding that parents need to be more responsible and monitor their children’s activities.
