Bill Kayong murder: Mohamad Fitri’s trial postponed to Dec 14

MIRI: The High Court here today fixed December 14, 2017 for further mention of the first accused Mohamad Fitri Pauzi charged with the murder of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), Miri branch secretary Bill Kayong in June 22 last year.

Today’s hearing was held in the chamber before Senior Assistant Registrar Md Syafique Md Hilmie, who was updated on the development on the hearing in the Court of Appeal in Putrajaya,  on the appeal on the discharge and acquittal of the second, third and fourth accused persons, all local Mirians.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Wan Mohd I’zzat Wan Abdullah said the hearing is still going on at the Court of Appeal for the trio. They were prominent businessman Datuk Stephen Lee Chee Kiang, 46,  his personal assistant Chin Wui Ching, 51, and Lie Chang Loon,38 (pub owner).

They were discharged and acquitted on June 6 after the trial failed to link them to the murder of Bill while Mohamad Fitri was supposed to enter his defence on August 18 and was postponed to today and subsequently to Dec 14.

Mohamad Fitri, 30, was first charged on July 17, 2016  together with Lee, Chin and Lie.

They were charged with abetting Mohamad Fitri, an offence punishable under Section 109 read together with Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carry the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.

Bouncer Mohamad Fitri is charged with murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which provides for a mandatory death sentence. He has pleaded not guilty to killing Bill, also known as Mohd Hasbie Abdullah.

Bill was shot dead inside his 4WD vehicle at a traffic light intersection near E-mart supermarket in Tudan at 8.20am on June 21 last year.
