KUCHING: Police have arrested the main suspect of a goldsmith shop robbery that was committed at Jalan Market last week.

District police chief ACP Abang Ahmad Abang Julai said a citizen’s arrest was made towards the 35-year-old suspect at Jalan Ban Hock around 6.30pm yesterday and was later surrendered to the police.

Abang Ahmad added the suspect from Sri Aman also tested positive for methamphetamine.

“The suspect was produced in court today and was placed under a three-day remand to facilitate investigation under Section 380 of the Penal code,” he said.

He noted that the arrest came after a woman lodged a police repot on Oct 11 when the suspect allegedly express his interest to purchase a gold bracelet and later tried on the said bracelet worth RM8,300 before fleeing the scene in a car.

It was learned that a man, believed to be the suspect’s friend, was arrested by the police on the day of the incident (Oct 11) in front of a food court at Jalan Rock.

Initial investigation showed the suspect had 11 previous criminal records.
