KUCHING: Sarawak’s fifth Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem was posthumously presented the Pingat Satria Bintang Sarawak (SBS), which carries the title Pehin Sri, during an investiture ceremony at Astana Negeri here yesterday.

Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud presented the award to Adenan’s widow Datuk Amar Jamilah Anu, who is Tanjong Datu assemblywoman.

SBS – the highest award conferred by the state government – acknowledges Adenan’s service and dedication to the people of Sarawak.

Former Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu Numpang said in his speech that Adenan made significant contributions to the state, especially in his pursuit for greater autonomy.

In addition, Jabu said Adenan also showed he was a chief minister for all races, never side-lining any particular race or group while helming the administration, which resulted in Barisan Nasional winning 72 out of the 82 seats during the 2016 state election.

He added that Adenan’s untimely demise in January left a void and a sense of loss shared by Sarawakians from all walks of life.

Taib also presented the Pingat Panglima Negara Bintang Sarawak (PNBS) to State Legal Counsel Datuk Fong Joo Chung, which carries the title Dato Sri.
