Drugs: Man fined RM6,000 in default five-month jail term

MIRI: The Magistrate’s Court here fined a man RM6,000 in default of five months’ imprisonment on two charges of drug consumption.

Senior Assistant Registrar Md Syafique Md Hilmie meted the penalty on Mohammad Towo, 44, and also ordered him to undergo two years of police probation.

Mohammad, from Jalan Lentik 5, off Jalan Lutong-Pujut, was found guilty under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

The offences were committed on June 15, 2011 in Pujut 9 and Sept 19 this year at the office of the Miri Narcotics Crime Investigation Division at the district police headquarters here.

He was fined RM2,200 in default of two months’ imprisonment for the first offence, and RM3,800 in default of three months’ imprisonment for the second offence.

Inspector Mohd Khairi Mohd Noor prosecuted.
