ESSCom to expand its ‘Semarak’ awareness programme

SEMPORNA: The Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom)’s  ‘Semarak’ programme with the local community will be expanded to other districts including Kudat, Beluran, Pitas and Kinabatangan.

ESSCom commander Datuk DCP Hazani Ghazali said the integrated programme aimed at instilling awareness in ESSZone residents on the importance of joint responsibility in safeguarding peace and security in their area, succeeded in achieving its objective.

“Alhamdulillah, ESSCom received good response and full cooperation from the community,” he told reporters when met after the programme launched by Semporna Umno Division acting chief Datuk Seri Nasir Tun Sakaran here yesterday.

The authorities involved in the programme are Malaysian Armed Forces, Royal Malaysia Police and Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency.

Other government and private agencies such as Civil Defence Force and Fire and Rescue Department also took part.

Meanwhile, Nasir said the programme which began in Lahad Datu and continued to Sandakan, Kunak and ended in Semporna, enabled the residents to be informed about ESSCom’s level of preparedness in defending Sabah’s east coast against threats from terrorist groups. — Bernama
