KOTA KINABALU: Torrential rain and strong wind struck several areas in the city centre here causing several trees to fall even though there were no casualties or flash floods reported.

A Sabah Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said so far the department had received eight emergency calls on incidents of fallen trees following a heavy rain and strong wind spell at 1pm.

“Heavy rain and strong wind caused trees to be uprooted and obstructed roads in several areas such as Sepanggar, Penampang and Kota Kinabalu,” he said when contacted by Bernama.

He said after receiving calls from members of the public, several rescue teams were sent to clear up the affected areas. — Bernama
