Ling wins Sarawak Senior Amateur Closed Golf C’ship

KUCHING: Bernett Ling Soon Kiong of Kelab Golf Sibu rode on his good form to card a two-over 74 for a two-day total gross score of 153 strokes to lift the Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr Wong Soon Kai challenge trophy at the 8th Sarawak Senior Amateur Closed Golf Championship at Kelab Golf Sarawak (KGS) yesterday.

Abdul Aziz Sahari from the KGS also played well to card a 76 to add to the first day score of 80 for a total score of 156 to finish in second place while Kunjin Sandhu of Kelab Golf Miri was third three strokes further back.

Sarawak Golf Association president Hoan Kee Hock of KGS came in fourth when he returned a total score of 160 to finish a stroke ahead of club mate Michael Lee while first-day leader Yeh Ching Chung from Kelab Golf Bintulu settled for the sixth spot with 162.

They were followed by Ronny Ling (165), Fong Chan Kwee (166 OCB), Abu Bakar Kiprawi (166 OCB) and Abang Abdul Rahman (166).

Harrison Lunsa pipped Samuel Tiew to the nett title after an On Count Back (OCB) as both scored a similar 140 strokes in the two-day competition organised by the Senior Golfers Society of Sarawak (SGSS).

Third and fourth placings were also decided OCB, with Hipni Abang Kanaini having the edge over Kuan Kim Shoon.

In fifth to eighth placings were Robert Elone (144), Mohamad Ashari (145 )CB), Ronnie Chong (145 OCB) and Mohd Said Gapor (145).

Other winners were Edward Chin (145) in the Age 55-65 Years, Anthony Tan (147) in the Age 66-75 Years and Ting Kuok Ing (148) in the Age 76 & Above.

The daily gross winners were Philip Saging (Day 1) and Badul Zakun (Day 2) while the daily nett winners were Sia Chui Seng (Day 1) and Sahdi Samaon (Day 2).
