12 houses destroyed by landslide in Telipok

KOTA KINABALU: Twelve houses at Skim Penempatan Telipok to be destroyed in a landslide amidst continuous heavy rains, yesterday.

No casualties were however reported.

State Fire and Rescue Department Operation Centre chief Khatizah Rahaban said the department received a distress call at 12.52pm and immediately deployed fire and rescue personnel to the scene.

“The area is about an acre wide and about 12 houses were destroyed in the landslide,” she said yesterday.

Meanwhile, Khatizah said 30 people from eight families from Kampung Kolam Damai Minintod, Penampang were made homeless when their houses were destroyed in a landslide.

“They are currently taking shelter at the Penampang sports complex,” she said.

Several landslides were also reported along hilly roads around the state capital, Penampang and Tuaran, cutting off all forms of vehicles.

Meanwhile, the number of evacuees from Kota Belud had increased from 170 to 453.

A spokesperson for the Malaysia Civil Defence said 181 people from 64 families had been placed at Sekolah Agama Tun Said, while 272 people from 106 families were taking shelter at the Tun Said Community Hall.
