KOTA KINABALU: A former worker of a frozen meat shop was jailed a total of 72 months by the Magistrate’s Court here for four charges of trespassing into the shop and disposing of stolen items.
Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus imposed the sentence on Marlon Ladja Panasang, 23, after he pleaded guilty to the charges yesterday.
On the first to the second counts, the unrepresented accused was sentenced to 18 and 22 months’ jail respectively for disposing a stolen iron box belonging to the premises and 53 boxes of frozen meat.
The two offences were committed in bushes in Tanjung Aru on October 5 and at a fresh mini mart in Beaufort between early September until end of October, respectively.
The two charges under Section 414 of the Penal Code carry a jail term of up to seven years or a fine or both, upon conviction.
The accused received another 20 months’ jail for his third charge of trespassing into the premises in Tuaran Township on August 26 and stealing 53 boxes of frozen meat.
The accused was convicted under Section 457 of the same Code which provides for a jail term of up to five years and a fine upon conviction.
On the fourth count, the accused was jailed 12 months and fined RM2,000, in default, one month’s jail for breaking into the same premises but located in Tanjung Aru on September 21.
The offence under Section 453 of the Penal Code is punishable by a maximum jail of three years or a fine or both, upon conviction.
The magistrate ordered for the accused, who is a passport holder, to serve some of his jail terms consecutively and concurrently.
Prosecuting officers Inspector Albert Basiri and Inspector Papilus Primus appeared for the prosecution.
