MIRI: A fire at a bank here destroyed automated teller machines (ATMs), cash deposit machines (CDMs), and a cheque deposit machine early yesterday morning.

The incident, at the Waterfront Commercial Centre along Jalan Indica, was detected at 2.25am and prompted a distress call to the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba).

A Bomba spokesperson said its personnel were dispatched to the scene to douse the flames, which was estimated to have razed about 90 per cent of the room housing the machines.

In total, the fire destroyed three ATMs, three CDMs, and one cheque deposit machine, but did not result in any injuries.

The spokesperson added that a Bomba forensics team is currently investigating the cause of the fire.

Meanwhile, district police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah confirmed that a report of the incident has been lodged.

When asked, he said police are probing the incident but stressed that no foul play was behind the fire.

“There is no foul play. The fire started from one of the ATM machines,” he said in a brief statement to the media yesterday.
