KUCHING: Sarawakians are hoping that the 2018 State Budget which is expected to be tabled at the upcoming State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting will place strong emphasis on Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) and public service delivery system.

According to Institute of Management Sarawak (Masa) president Tan Sri Datuk Amar Hamid Bugo, both issues were highlighted by members of the public who participated in Masa pre state budget luncheon forum held at Kelab Golf Sarawak (KGS) yesterday.

“Concerns were raised on assisting the SME’s, while at the same time also on improving the state government delivery of its services to the masses,” said Hamid when met by The Borneo Post after the forum.

“Participants of the forum also want a reduced bureaucracy, and also better management of human resources.”

Hamid added that human resources is a major concern for some who urged the state government to give attention to detail on training the people to be specialised in any particular industry.

“There were concerns on the training of manpower for Sarawakians and some were calling for a more focused attention to potential industry to groom talents from a young age,” he added.

The forum, whose feedback would be forwarded to the state government saw panellists such as Borneo Development Corporation chairman Datuk Peter Nansian Ngusie, Naim Holdings Berhad director Datuk Abang Jemat Abang Bujang, Ting Holdings Sdn Bhd managing director Datuk Alex Ting and UiTM Sarawak associate professor Annie Wong.
