Jokowi to visit Kuching next month

KUCHING: It is confirmed Indonesian President Joko Widodo, popularly known as Jokowi, will be in Kuching next month on invitation from the Malaysian government.

He will be meeting Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak for the annual bilateral consultation meeting between both countries, and also to attend the World Islamic Economic Forum at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here.

Indonesian consul general in Kuching, Jahar Gultom, announced today the Indonesian president’s visit is scheduled from November 21 to 22.

“Issues concerning cross-border trade and movement are expected to be discussed during the meeting between Indonesian President and the Malaysian Prime Minister,” he said to reporters after chairing after the meeting to finalise preparations for the Festival Danau Sentarum-Betung Kerihun.

On another matter, Jahar also announced Festival Danau Sentarum-Betung Kerihun will be held from this Wednesday till Saturday at Lanjak, Kapuas Hulu, about 30 minutes drive from Lubok Antu CIQ Complex.

He invited Sarawakians to visit the festival and witness the exciting activities, which include performance by popular dangdut singer Zaskia Gotik.

He also believed the similarities in culture between Dayaks of Sarawak and Kapuas Hulu will be an added attraction, as there will also be blowpipe competition and sape performance.

Visitors can also take the boat to explore the Danau Sentarun, a popular tourist attraction there.
