MARUDI: The Community Development Department (Kemas) has an important role in developing the community and one of the ways it helps a community to develop is through early childhood education.

“Sending children to the play school or kindergarten will cultivate in them the right attitude towards education which is useful for their better future,” said a political secretary to the chief minister, Charles Balan Seling, at the Mini Convocation of Tabika Kemas for Marudi District at Baram Civic Centre here yesterday.

He was representing Deputy Speaker of State Legislative Assembly Datuk Gerawat Gala, who is also Mulu assemblyman.

“We all know how good education can determine the success of an individual.

“Many of us would not be where we are today if we did not go to school.

“I believe Kemas prepares all these children well for the future and gives them a good head start in their journey towards achieving academic excellence in the future,” Charles reminded.

He said the government had always given top priority to education to prepare the younger generation for the competitive world when they grow up.

Some 90 pupils from nine Kemas kindergartens in Marudi District received their certificates from Charles.

The Best Student award went to Alnie Wulandari Albert and the Best Teacher award was won by Betty Baun Likong of Tabika Kemas, Long Semiang.

Present were Kemas Baram officer Sutinah Ibrahim, SAO Vanessa Joseph and Baram education officer Saripah Azizah Wan Hussain.
